The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review

A request by small poetry publication, The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review, to use one of my older paintings in their upcoming issue prompted me to re-shoot it. I happened to still have this one, and I emailed an image of Watchers to them today.

It will appear as an inside, black-and-white image in the Winter 2015 issue.

  • “I get letters from people about my work. The thing that pleases me most is that my work touches their feelings. In fact, they don't talk about the paintings. They end up telling me the story of their life or how their father died.”

  • “This is how a human being can change:

there’s a worm addicted to eating
    grape leaves.

    Suddenly, he wakes up,
    call it grace, whatever, something
wakes him, and he’s no longer
    a worm.

    He’s the entire vineyard,
and the orchard too, the fruit, the trunks,
    a growing wisdom and joy
    that doesn’t need
    to devour.”
